[Ada_list] Len Lye Centre hangs in the balance

Calling all,

The Len Lye Centre hangs in the balance today, as the District Council must vote on some additional funds for the project. There is a special meeting at 4.30pm today.

Go to
http://www.stuff.co.nz/taranaki-daily-news/news/8361545/Crucial-council-vote-on-Len-Lye-project

And vote. Currently yes is just one percent ahead of no.

This is an important initiative for Aotearoa New Zealand as it would be our first sole artist gallery. The building is an extraordinary architectural design.

It is possible that the vote percentages will be mentioned in the debate (though of course the status of the data as objectively representative is questionable).

[Ada_list] Mesh Cities Christchurch - Update

Greetings ADA people

We are thinking today of everyone of you affected by the Feb 22 quake, and the amazing, sad, and challenging experiences of the past few years.

As you know, The ADA trust board has embarked on a project which over three + years will become a dialogue around the place of media art in public spaces - with reference to the rebuild of Christchurch. The project is a national series of workshops and symposia, which will include many exciting and challenging conversations and provocations for new works.

Creative New Zealand have granted funding towards the first two years and part of the capital sought for the Mesh Cities Christchurch project to begin. (Thanks CNZ!)

http://www.ada.net.nz/meshcities/ada-mesh-cities-christchurch/

* Towards the end of 2013 is a symposium in Dunedin (September 13-16) - exploring media art and public space: public artworks and installations using media technologies. Please put this date in your diaries now!

* At Easter, the project will launch with a critical roundtable that will define the theoretical frameworks within which the project sits. We want to engage a range of individuals from across creative sectors to explore what we see as the key questions for media art in transitional cities. We are hoping for a collective effort and new and unexpected approaches. The roundtable will also serve as a launch for the whole project and it would be great to see ADA faces old and new!

Roundtable and launch event;
Saturday 30 March - starting 11am

@ The Physics Room
Second Floor
Old Central Post Office Building
209 Tuam Street
Christchurch

One outcome of the roundtable discussion will be the call for proposals for the Dunedin symposium and a framing statement to encapsulate the project. This will be released at the launch party in the evening of 30th March

Please alert us to anyone you feel should be included in this invitation, or If you will be in Christchurch and would like to come, include your ideas we would like to hear from you by or before the 8th of March. The discussion will be available remotely as it unfolds, and an update about the day will be placed on the ADA website.

The roundtable and launch event are hosted by the Physics Room in Christchurch (Thanks Physics Room!)

RSVP email to meshcities@ada.net.nz

[Ada_list] Netwalking Registration now open!!!

Hi all,

We are pleased to announce that Netwalking registration is now open.

Netwalking is a series of walks, talks and master-classes with UK-based
media artist Simon Pope, taking place between March 16th and April 14th
2013.

http://ada.net.nz/netwalking/

The series explores themes from Popeís recent works such as walking with
others, negotiating routes, and exploring relationships between people
and our relationships with 'land'.

Public walks in Wellington, Christchurch and Sydney present different
aspects of walking-as-art, drawing on examples of Pope's work, with each
walk responding to different forms and terrains. Walks require a normal
level of fitness, and are punctuated by breaks for discussion and
refreshment.

Masterclasses in Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland and Woollongong are
an opportunity for artists, performers, academics and students to
present and discuss walking or related participatory, media or social
art projects with Simon Pope and a group of peers. We are
particularly interested in artists working with walking, conversational
or dialogic forms, projects that deal with relationship to landscape or
environment, expeditionary methodologies and projects that bridge
between media art and post-media forms such as walking.

The Artist Talk in Whanganui is an introduction to Pope's work, while
the Panel Discussion in Auckland will be an opportunity to develop an
understanding of the relationship between Media Art and Participatory
forms such as walking-as-art, as well as the exploring possible linkages
to environment, ecology, nature and land.

All Netwalking events are free of charge.

Places are limited for Masterclasses and Walks so please register:

http://ada.net.nz/netwalking/#register

Flyers and posters can be downloaded at:

For any other queries please email netwalking(at)greenbench(dot)org

cheers
